Mobile Hotspot, free or not?

I'd love to use the Mobile Hotspot on my Verizon phone, but I fear turning it on and getting a bigger phone bill.

I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan. Does anyone have experience with this? If I turn on Mobile hotspot will the rate go up?

Edit:

I found a thread that stated it will only be free if I root the phone. First, I'm not smart enough to do that. Second, I have Android 2.2 with an update, on an Incredible I and I think I can't root anyway.

But I'd still like to hear from anyone who has Verizon and is using the Mobile Hotspot feature.
TIA.

Hi, I added the Mobile Hotspot like 3wks ago. If you turn it on, you won't be billed because it first checks for a subscription. When it sees you don't have one, it tells you to call Customer Care to add it.

I initially had the 2GB and now I have 4GB Total for $50 which my dc applied to as well. I'm glad I have it so now I can use my Tablet whenever I want.
I hope this helps you! :-)
