mobile network ON but red

So, earlier today, I went under setting and "mobile network" was ON but instead "ON" being green it was red. It's now back to being green. Does anyone know why this happens? It's probably because the signal was pour/non-existent, but I am not sure.

Due to lack of service from carrier could be many things , low signal, sim not active or bar on sim.
