i found this just randomly searching.. its for the htc sensation.. but from what ive researched.. it has the same cpu/gpu we have...

i flashed the battery save version on top of brokenout 3 and so far ive noticed it did disable the 2nd core.. antutu scores are alot lower.. i got 4799@1.8 .. and seems like it charges a little faster... but if it can increase battery life i can deal with it not being the fastest

all it changes is /system/etc/init.qcom.post_boot.sh so for those unsure about flashing or returning it to "stock" use a root explorer and save a copy of that file before flashing


i havent got my battery to 100% to test full battery life yet.. but after i do ill post my results... earlier running brokenout 3 @1.5ghz it drained from 100%-50% in 2 hours and 30 minutes..... with about 2 hours of that being screen on(im a heavy user)
 
Great find! This is definitely helpful for those who are trying to extend their battery life as much as they can.

I've personally used this myself and definitely noticed a noticeable increase in battery life, not to mention I can still play 720p videos along with what I normally do with just a good amount of battery saved. Thanks :D
 
Someone should run some solid tests with the app activated on 100% LTE, then 100% WIFI, then app off same parameters. I say this because it might be more effective to simply underclock your device if you want to save more battery. Some apps are designed to operate better with dual cores, so turning one off may actually have adverse performance results.

I'd also be interested to know if the CPU core quantity had any effect on efficiency of LTE or the display, since those are the two biggest battery hogs.
 
Does this allow for scheduling of the core power off? If you could set it to power down one core when the screen is off, it would be very useful.
 
Good call. I think it's a bit counterproductive to reduce processing capacity when you're using the phone, but maybe in standby, it could reduce battery consumption.
 
I don't mind the network traffic if my battery doesn't lose 10-40% over night like it will now. With the screen off and only one core running it might provide an exceptable amount of battery loss to leave the network on. Never know when an emergency might happen at night.
 
running the performance version.. screen off and in call @ 594mhz conservative... normal max 1512 min 486 ondemand.. i successfully got this thing to last 9 1/2 hours on a single charge... with brokenout 3... and i think i undervolted -25 all the way across the board...


having a spectrum without shitty signal makes performance alot better.. lmao

Just flash it in recovery.... battery saver forces the 2nd core of your processor off.. and performance forces both cores to stay running.. I'd say try each one for a couple days. it really depends on how you use your phone.. I've got mixed results with all 3
