Hey am not shy to a bit of coding etc so thought i would ask

i have seen homescreens with custom made looking icons etc for example these two

How do you make these types of screens, if it was a wallpaper then its easy but how do you code it so that you have numbers of emails, sms etc

like this

obviously the design would be a lot better this is just an example
