I don't think there's much wrong in having some of these apps, but I do worry about some of the people who use them. Vulnerable people get bullied, malicious people do the bullying.
Also it seems to attract daft people. My carrier has a forum which gives "Kudos" to posts that people like. Unfortunately with the facebook culture of collecting "likes", you get idiots spamming the board with their inane meaningless tripe so they can collect points. They had a cull of silly 'game' threads & also the spam, & they started crying over it - without realising that they were also responsible for spamming the board!
And to the people who say they need 'social media' to communicate with their friends or family, well I would be deeply offended if mine decided to communicate with me that way, when there are proper means of communication for it (if you can't go see them in person).
