Who's evil purpose, Coolpad's?
Coolpads are budget phones anyway and are not expensive new. But anyway, I believe Swappa is an often recommended and safe on AF to buy used devices. Provided you factory reset, the phone isn't rooted, and is on original factory firmware it should be OK.
I think the OP is concerned about Coolpad devices containing spyware, or at least apps with little respect for privacy.

Hadron is right. I am concerned about all this spying, commercial and otherwise. Shouldn't it be possible to use a phone without having to worry about all that? They'll already drive us crazy with freezes, crashes, bloatware, not enough storage, etc. I just want a good reliable phone with at least 16 GB, good SD possibilities, and a decent camera. Rootable would be nice, too.
Having root access totally negates having a secure phone. Not having root, especially on a Coolpad will have the spyware you don't want. It's either a pure Android phone with all the data raking apps removed, or, and I know @mikedt hates this answer lol, get a BlackBerry OS10 phone, NOT the new Android BlackBerry. You can sideload a lot of Android apps if you want, but those apps usually have the data access you don't want to hang out.
They're very secure, much more difficult to hack.
EDIT: they're also very easy to find on eBay in almost new condition for cheap money. But I'm certain you'll miss all of the Android bonuses.

Your cellphone company tracks your location and usage... who you called and when.
Your ISP tracks which IP addresses you connect to and the URLS you visit
The websites you visit, track your location and IP address
The advertisers in those sites track you across sites and see what you visited and when.
Google or Bing track your searches, and so know your medical conditions, religious beliefs, and sexual orientation.
Facebook tracks everything you view, like and share, and from that knows your political leanings, opinions
The Applications on your phone may have access to other information about you..
All of this information may be aggregated and sold to third parties....
And of course your government and law enforcement can get all of this stuff...
(so yeah... if you really insist you can go and root your little cheap android phone, buy and expensive blackberry or iphone, but its not going to make jot of difference)
