Moto Droid or Nexus One?

Okay, sorry the typicalness of this thread.

But, pretty soon i'm going to buy another android handset.
So i'll have my Contracted Hero for real use
and either a moto droid or N1 to swap between for personal/work use
and to root (i refuse to root my hero while still on contract)

So far i'm up for getting the droid.

I see no significant difference that in the N1 and Hero other than firmware.
The Droid has a QWERTY

So...which one?
Is there anything REALLY amazing about the N1 that has to do with the phone rather than the 2.1 software on it?

IMO, the N1 completely obsoletes the Hero. The only thing the Hero has over the N1 is the Sense UI, which also means you'll be behind on android updates.

So with an N1 you're basically getting an upgrade in every department.

With a Droid, you get a new piece of the spectrum. The QWERTY keyboard makes games more feasible, and makes typing / texting / emails more natural. Plus, it's screen is unmatched by any other Android device. You'll be amazed by the difference in quality, and the size difference makes a huge difference for web browsing.
 
The screen on the droid isn't that good i've heard.
In accordance to accuracy anyway.

I'll link to engadget if no-one believes me.

Anyway, what's so good about the N1

I love sense, FAR better than plain android.
However i've only used 1.5 so...

uh...its been tested and proven that the Droid has the best screen out of its competitors

the biggest difference in the Droid and N1 is the carrier. ( for now)


the Droid wins in my book because i can use it better on a non wifi connection...thats the point of a data plan isnt it? Tmobiles network isnt nearly as good as verizon, so a lot of the android features like google nav works better on verizons network
 
While sense is nice-looking, it has some drawbacks:
- You're stuck on 1.5 while the rest of us are on 2.0.1 / 2.1
- It's more resource intensive than stock Android
- If you want to run a custom rom with 2.1 + Sense, you can do that on a N1 / Droid with superior hardware.

I'll admit I wanted Sense UI for awhile, but there are so many ways to skin and theme stock Android that my sense envy has since vanished.

The N1 is slightly superior hardware-wise to the Droid in most aspects (except keyboard, LED, and screen), and the Droid is more noticably superior hardware-wise to the Hero in all aspects. I'll let you look up the technical specs yourself. Software-wise, the N1 comes with 2.1.

Hero - Sprint
Droid - Verizon
N1 - T-mobile / ATT without 3G / Verizon (spring)

All phone companies / networks have their pros and cons

and whoever told you the screen on the Droid isn't good doesn't own a Droid.
 
N1 isn't worth getting right now because its only available on t-mobile. Get the droid, you won't be dissapointed. It's verizon, awesome and has an AMAZING screen. I OWN ONE, I KID YOU NOT.

T-mobile is the best network for my area, and it'd be sim-free either way
I'd get free internet and texts for
 
Loves how everyone is Droid crazy. the droid is really not all everyone makes it out to be. And once all android phones are running the same software later this year, I believe that will be painfully evident. Pros on the N1: Fastest processor, 1 gig snapdragon. That makes the droid third fastest (yes I said Third. Samsung moment is actually faster and more powerful than the droid for those that haven't done their homework. droids processor comes in at 550 mhz, samsungs comes in at 800mhz), The screen size on both the N1 and the droid are the same 3.7 inch. But the N1 is AMOLED, so the screen is actually more vibrant (my friend has a droid, I have a samsung moment, and he comments regularly how my screen looks better. AMOLED screens show sharper color contrast). the only thing the droid has over the N1 is the keyboard (which has been said across the board that it sucks).

Android phones are all awesome, but don't make one particular phone more than what it actually is. Doesn't matter if it's hardware specs, software version, UI overlay or hearsay, bottom line is... whichever phone you choose, will be the one you feel most comfortable with, and that particular Android phone will be your best phone, because you made it so
 
By the time the N1 gets to Verizon, Sprint will have 2.1 for the Hero anyways. I was with Verizon for 6 years and every single phone they have got from another carrier is always horrible and laggy. Just one example is the HTC Touch Pro. Mine on Sprint is like 5 times faster and much better overall than my friend's on Verizon. Stick with the Hero.

ummm,,,james cameron was thinking of releasing "avatar" on the droid because he thought the screen was perfect, however there was a 3-d issue.

his next film, a collaboration with speilberg and peter jackson, starring dicaprio/damon/clooney/day-lewis and kirsten dunst as "the girl" will indeed be shown on the droid ONLY.

I can see this being a terrible lie.
And, Avatar was terrible.
It's was basically last samurai but in space and 3D.
It looked good but...lacked everything else IMO.

That test is bullsh"*t. I would figure if the line is less straight it is more accurate. The DROIDS screen is truly amazing, I dont care what any test says, look at one, play with one. I have one and I have used other android devices and iphones, nothing compares to the DROIDs screen...NOTHING!

What Doubledee is trying to say is, the screen looks best. Which is true because it is. It is a huge screen, and the N1 cant compare to that because the moto droid has a 24 bit display, while the N1 has 16. Honestly, the only thing the N1 has over the droid is processor speed. The droid's runs at 600MHz, while the N1 runs at 1GHz. Still, I have the droid and its FAST! You get used to the keyboard, and I love it. Its really just a toss up between the two, but I would wait if you are going to get the N1 until it comes to verizon...

I am not a fanboy at all, I love all android devices, I just hate when people bring up this test, because they havent actually used a droids screen. Once you use it, its like going from an old 90s tv to an HD tv, its amazing.
 
I love the Droid screen, I only use on-screen typing I don't really bother with using the keyboard unless its a long post on forums.
 
Why dont you kids arguing about screen size, colors, processor speeds and all the other crap thats non essential to a PHONE just carry around the ultimate mobile computing device that will smoke ANY phone for years to come and its already on the market. The LAPTOP! :rolleyes:
