Help moto g (2013) stuck on 4.4.2

I have a moto g1 8 gig and it i stuck on 4.4.2 while my brothers moto g1 16gb is on 4.4.4 which supports usb otg as my phone will not pick up the usb his will i think it is the software if there is a way i can update maybe i can expand past 8gb
