Moto G4 Storage Problem

I recently got a 64GB SD card that I formatted as internal storage. However, my device's "internal shared storage" gets filled up, at which point I received a "low storage" message. Logically, it would make sense to move apps from the internal storage to the SD card. However, when I try to change the location of some apps like snapchat and instagram, it appears like it prepares to move the app to the SD card, but the progress pauses and actually moves backwards once it gets to about 90%. At this point, I get a message saying "not enough space." I still have 50GB of space on the SD card, but it's saying "not enough space" and not letting me moves apps from internal storage. Any ideas?

Are you sure that SD card is legit? I have read about a lot of people getting fake SD cards that look like real ones and having weired problems with their phones.

There are a bunch of apps on Play Store to check if your SD card is real or not...

Adam, are you sure about this card origin? Many fake products have been shipped. Pendrives and SD cards acts exactly as you describe: shows to our devices a big amount of space, but really has much less...

When formatted as 'internal' (a.k.a 'adoptable'), the card essentially becomes a part of your phone's internal storage. You, yourself, no longer interact with it directly, transferring files and such, that's now done by the Android operating system as its been more or less added to the total storage capacity of your phone.
If you want to use it again as a portable (external) card, you need to reformat as portable. This changes it back it's original default status, using FAT32 as its default file system, and at that point allowing you to manually transfer files/folders again.

Regarding the 'low storage' message, keep in mind the internal storage media is divided into different partitions, most are dedicated to just the operating system and one is for user data. It's not clear if your 'low storage' message is a reference to the operating system or to the data partition. (From a typical user's perspective, they're separate and distinct as, unless the device is rooted, we only have complete access to the data partition and only very limited access to any of the system partitions.) How much space is being used by the different categories when you look at your Settings >> Storage menu?

Like @svim said, you probably still have the card as external, but on the main Settings screen it will show the total storage until you go to the Storage screen.

I too have a Moto G4 and a good SanDisk 64 gb card. (you can get a SanDisk app).
I would never risk formatting it as internal storage. It's not worth it, and I'm sure many agree.
You ultimately still have an app storage dilemna. Any portions of apps transferred to an external card usually get transferred back with an update and you don't save much internal space.

Try Google's Files to Go app for an assessment of what you can do without

I still have loads of apps on mine (6.2 gb) but no large games.
