Moto to Update to ICS within 6 weeks

Thanks for sharing. I just read an article that they were in talks about this very thing. We are looking about 10-11 weeks to see it on our RAZR's if it passes thru Verizons testing

I think what they meant was this....After reading some comments, I'd have to agree that what they are trying to state is that in 6 weeks, they will release a roadmap of what current phones can/will receive the ICS update.

That is some SERIOUS smack talking and does not seem practical to literally publish to users in six weeks from OS release. Possible if no custom UI or bloat, but we know VZW & Motos love for that stuff.

Must mean they start doing something in six weeks instead, so I agree with others here. Still probably means 2012 for ICS on the Razr. Wonder if they "re-clarify" their words soon ;)

Add:

Then again, Moto is soon to be part of Android....... ;) Joking of course.

I just want to clarify, Motorola made 2 (two) statements;

1. That the Droid RAZR (and Bionic and Xoom) will receive an official update to ICS.
2. Within 6 weeks of Google's ICS push, Moto will outline which of their other devices will get the update.

Moto never said that the RAZR will be updated within 6 weeks. People are sensationalizing this. Do NOT expect the update within 6 weeks.

This just means they will announce more devices that will get it within 6 weeks after ics is launched not that the razr will get it within 6 weeks after launch. Gotta get better comprehension dudes=)

whatever dates they give when the road map is out. I would had about two months to that.

If it were HTC and they produced a road map in the same fashion i would add about 10 months to their estimates. ...#senseisthereasonHTCupdatestakesolong

In the spirit of friendly speculation i say 4-5 weeks after roadmap hits. Xoom, RAZR, Bionic obviously first up.

Xoom should be the first tablet AFTER the Transformer Prime, which looks to be the flagship 4.x tablet right now. Bionic and RAZR should follow shortly after, as you stated. How quick is anyone's guess, but Google has said that faster updates were part of the goal with ICS. Also, OEMs (not named Samsung or HTC) had greatly reduced the amount of "crap" their skins to, which has sped up their own turnaround times.

Sense is a hog in every aspect. Touchwiz is getting better and they update quick its the catriers that slow down updates here in the u.s. the international versions had updates way before their counterparts.

LOL at these bloggers jumping the gun. Nice reading comprehension, guys!

"these" bloggers...... Seems the media latched on and people ran with it, but to their credit, did not believe it in that context. That is what happens when people truncate communications in drive-by tweets. VZW seem to be stepping out of their element of quiet and not doing too good so far.

To their credit however, they ARE trying.

Given that ASUS hasn't even started shipped the Transformer Prime yet, I suspect it's a foregone conclusion that it'll hit the streets with ICS. Problem is that it's not yet apparent exactly when that will be. The last article I read seemed to allude that it'll ship in Q1 2012.

Update: Anandtech seems to agree with a carrier release in Q1

Moto said that not verizon.

I have to stick up for Sense here. I use a Droid Incredible with Sense 1.x (latest update has some elements of Sense 2, but not the full package). All I removed was the carrier bloat (Verizon apps). It positively flies. Home screen is as fluid as my wife's iPhone 4. Pan/zoom/scrolling in the browser is not up to Phone quality, but it is better than the browser on CM7. Overall, the package is larger, but Sense adds a lot to the phone.

I would argue after using various Samsung and Moto phones that, while I prefer vanilla for customization, Sense provides the best out of box experience for an Android phone. Sense and Touchwiz usually offers so much more than stock Android that it's ok, IMO, for them to be one version behind in the base OS, as they usually offer most of the additional features of that OS.

Agree.......I would add the new Blur in there as well. Worlds better than when it first released. I don't know what that was

Not overly concerned about sense/blur, etc.... I just use a different launcher and freeze what I don't need after rooting. I suppose a completely clean slate is preferable (vanilla android) but not necessary IMHO. BTW, I've switched to Nemus launcher about a month ago and am loving it FWIW. Very lightweight, but still enough options, or at least the options I most needed.

I'll take Sense on my Incredible over Blur on the Bionic. Blur has improved, but it's not in the same league as Touchwiz and Sense, yet. Again, my opinion. I still prefer Vanilla as I like to customize, but if I want a phone with a solid out of box experience, I either want the iPhone, WP7, Sense, or Touchwiz. Nothing else in in the same league as those guys.

See I'd take Blur over Sense. Touchwiz, Blur then Sense.

Don't like iOS at all. Too pretty and girlie (in my opinion)

Agreed. Exactly same procedure.
