Moto X Camera Software update!

Only for TMo right now I guess.... I don't find it od that they didn't fix this before the roll out. They were on a release time table (which Im pretty sure they were behind already), and I bet it was just easier to let it ride and get feed back before letting out an update.... I hope the update fixes the assistant problem too.

Full change list:

Camera – Improved Photo Quality: Improved capture of natural light (auto-white balance) and color accuracy for more precise exposure in outdoor and backlit scenes
Camera – Improved Focus: Faster touch to focus time and reduced unnecessary refocusing in low light conditions and scenes with continuous motion
Camera – Faster Switching: Shortened the time it takes to switch between rear and front-facing cameras, as well as transition between the viewfinder and the Gallery app
Enhanced Touchless Control: Increased accuracy and responsiveness when using Touchless Control, and added easier training of the “OK Google Now” trigger
Improved Motorola Migrate Experience: Improved transfer of content from an old Android phone to a new Motorola phone
Google Drive – 50GB Promotion: Added a promotion expiration date – customers have 30 days from phone activation or installation of this update to redeem the 50GB offer
Calling – Improved Voice Quality: Fixed an issue that could sometimes result in choppy audio being heard by the person you’re talking with on your Moto X
Moto Care – Lost Device Finder: Fixed an issue that could sometimes prevent a lost phone from reporting its location to the Moto Care Lost Device Finder service
Motorola Assist – Driving Detection: Fixed an issue that could sometimes cause the phone to read out text messages and announce calls when not in Drive mode

Got this last night and posted some comparison photos of my own in the post your pictures sticky thread.

They did a great job with the camera, removing the really annoying white sheen especially.

the speed they got this fix out really makes me wonder if they knew about it at release but just didnt have the time to fix the problem. So rather then delaying the release of the Moto X they just decided to fix it later.

either way this seems like a great fix, il be eager to see a new comparison between the S4, G2, updated Moto X etc etc.

How would you say the focus has improved?

I actually didn't have a huge, game-breaking problem with the camera, before, so this is only good news, but I did notice the focus could take a little longer than I'd like, when I tried it in stores.

I never had any issues with the focus speed. It seems to take about 1 second for me (rough guesstimate).

It seems faster than my Galaxy Nexus, though I think some people are downloading a camera app called JB+ to get the stock Jelly Bean camera back for the purposes of getting it to take a bit long to focus (and hopefully get a better focus).

How long does it take for you?

I wonder if it was different on a in-store unit or if we have different expectations? Not sure.

I just wanted to add a quick note...I have the Moto X on Sprint and got the download pushed to me this morning (6am PST)

This is part of the reason I got this phone, for the hope that the updates would come fast, so so far they are delivering!

Ok so can we get some confirmation from other Sprint users, AT&T? VZ?

Is this now an official all out push of the update?

Answered my own question - T-Mo and Sprint only at this point.

Your guess is probably around where mine was, in the 1 sec range. I guess I more noticed it because I wasn't able to tap to focus, but you're certainly right, in that it's faster than the Galaxy Nexus (current daily driver).

All in all, I think the camera will suit me fine, as I did snap some decent photos (even on the old software, IMO), so it's just a matter of when they eventually restock the dev units.:)

Well I should have my X by the time I get home today. I am hoping they push the update to AT&T soon, not just the camera but some of the other tweaks look good too.

And of course hoping it stays on the Android Update Fast Track in the coming years.
