Moto X or HTC One GE

Surely this is being discussed somewhere, but a quick search didn't find a thread that encompassed this, so I'm creating one.

As a guy bent on the switch to Android from iOS, I'm currently trying to decide between the Moto X and the HTC One Google Play edition. I'm considering the following pros of each:

Moto X
  • Better notifications
  • Touchless control
  • Feels better in hand
  • Smaller
  • Customized colors
  • Much better battery performance
  • Made in USA
  • Trusted device pairing to delay lockscreen
  • Easier power button reach (small hands)

HTC
  • Much better display
  • Better processor
  • Better camera
  • Better build quality
  • Faster updates
  • Richer sound
  • IR blaster
  • Unlocked

Is anybody else in the same position? What did you decide? As somebody just entering the Android space, are there factors I'm not considering here?

According to reviewers the sound on both units is about the same. Also a GP edition of the Moto X is going to come out soonish so the points about faster updates is kinda a wash. Real world the displays are about the same. Your eyes cannot see over 316 PPI so the whole 720p vs 1080p on sub 5" screens is kinda wasted space.

Also a plus for the Moto X is it has a more powerful GPU setup then the HTC one, so gaming performance should be a little better with the X.

I believe the gpu is the sane but the x only has a 720p screen so it should perform better.

I would argue that you can tell a difference in 720 vs 1080 but it is really a small difference.

I would play with both devices and see which one you prefer, while I like the gpe phones the camera on the one I hear is worse than it running stock.

Well, technically the GPU is the same, but the fact that the HTC has 2.25x more pixels means the phone has a harder time pushing the framerate.

That said, the HTC One is a great phone. I personally don't like aluminum or glass phones because they're too slick in the hand and with any amount of moisture I'm scared of dropping it. Made worse in my opinion by the added weight of the One.

I also really dislike the button setup that the One has. I think that it feels horrible having the Home button on the right side of the capacitive button space. I also dislike how they have to hamper either the multitasking ability or ease of accessing Google Now. All this for annoying branding would bug me in day to day use.

The 1080p screen is great, but I just don't think that the tradeoffs of being a bigger battery and cpu/gpu hog are worth the minimal benefit you gain from going over 720p on a 4.7" screen.

Where are you getting the info that the GP edition of the Moto X is expected soonish? I've been trying to figure out whether the lack of carrier bloatware is worth the unknown wait.

This. Can't they place the logo somewhere else? A huge HTC logo at the back with a clean front won't be a problem, Nexua devices don't have those issues.

yep thats what i meant by "GPU setup" as i was including the screen and gpu in my estimated performance! :p

yea there are no specific dates at this point... all the Motorola people have said is a GP X should be out "soon". I'm kinda hoping it will be in the next month or two but that remains to be seen.
