Moto X Pricing

Tyroooooone

Newbie
Has anyone heard about how this might be priced in the Play Store/straight through Motorola?
Ideally I'd like it to be less than the carriers are selling it (off contract price), and in a CDMA version (unlimited on Verizon), with the MotoMaker customizer. Do I need to stop dreaming and start saving to pay $650? There has to be a way around it. I need my wood back!
Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like AT&T has motomaker exclusive rights until November, and unforuntately while I guess there is a chance for the Moto X to be cheaper at Motorola or the Play store, it is unlikely.

The GPE devices of the One and GS4 are both around the same prices of off contract on the carriers. So I would say you are best off to start saving up. I also wouldn't count on a Verizon version to be on the play store.

AT&T full retail is listed as 630 I believe, and US Cellular at 700 last I checked. I'm not sure if any other prices have been discovered/announced.

Do you know where those numbers came from? I saw a Best Buy leak of $699 somewhere, but they usually mark up their retail prices, so I was hoping it would drop back a little.

This article states that 16GB will be 575 and 32GB will be 629 on AT&T, though they just say AT&T confirmed rather than listing a source.

They actually have the prices already listed on the US Cellular site for the Moto X saying original price 699.99

At one of the release events, either one of the Google or Motorola people said they were going to be more aggressive with their pricing because the prices of phones in America are inflated, or something like that. I guess I'll start saving my pennies and keep my fingers crossed. I just didn't know if there was any news that I hadn't heard yet.

HERE.

Yeah that is why up until the announcement everyone thought it was going to be priced like a Nexus, then everyone was really disappointed when the phone was announced for the price it was.

Off contract these phones should not cost more than a gaming console. It is getting ridiculous.

Well, that's debatable. They both do similar things, and one you can put in your pocket while the other you can't. Depends on what you value more I suppose.

i mean techincally there is no price released yet. there is a suggested 2 year contract price but that means nothing... and best buys 699 is a standard for any phone regardless of its true value, they love to over price things.

At the very least there is 1, the US Cellular one that I linked above is from their actual website showing it to be to be 699.99. Plus we have an "unofficial" at&t confirmation that I also showed in my post.

Except that mobile phones can do something that gaming consoles cannot, which is connect to mobile networks to place calls and have internet access on the go. It is often seen that amongst tablets that adding mobile data radios to a tablet often increase the price of said device anywhere from $50(Nexus 7) to $130 (iPad). So if you assume the 16GB costs 585 like AT&T is claiming, and subtract 100 dollars to remove the data radio, that puts it at 485. Which price wise is less than the Xbox One.

This may seem like a dumb question but are the carrier off contract prices set by the carrier or the phone manufacturer? If they're set by the carrier, wouldn't it be possible that the off contract prices of the phones sold straight from Google or Motorola could be set much lower? I just can't believe that they'd be set that high after Motorola pretty much said the current phone prices are set too high.

I'm at the checkout right now on the Moto Maker site due to the early invite access, and the 32g is 629.99 off contract. It's also showing a 7 day turnaround instead of the 4-day they've been promoting, and thats without the engraving.

They are set by the carrier. No one outside of Moto/Google has a clue how much the Play store prices would be.

is there any reason to suggest the GPE will be priced significantly different? Based on the GPE S4 and HTC One, I'd assume the X will still be mid $500 or more.

why are people even thinking that the Moto X would be any cheaper than any other current gen phone? Show me some evidence that even suggest it? I think someone said it on the interwebs months ago and then it has manifested into some kind of super rumor

I think it stems from the fact that hardware wise, it doesn't stack up to the latest & greatest from their rivals. Combine the fact that it's Google inspired phone from Motorola with the history of Nexus device prices from Google Play. It still offers a great experience though from many of the reviews say.

People are crazy if they think something assembled in the USA is going to be cheap. Sorry, we have this thing called minimum wage here, but I'd be willing to bet there is a union behind the workers aswell.

Thus, even higher prices.

Yeah, I think I read something that the assemblers were getting about $10 per hour or so.

Man, that's nothing. I mean, compared to any other phone being built that's a lot, but that's not much in today's society for hourly wage.:smokingsomb:

Yeah, it's just the way things have become :(. I have a feeling if they went top of the line Snapdragon 800,1080p screen, the retail of this would have probably pushed $1000 dollars.
