Help Motocast automatically opens on PC w/ICS

stacyb139

Newbie
OK, here's one I can't seem to find an answer to. Ever since Motorola rolled out the ICS operating system, my DROID RAZR MAXX is giving me trouble when I plug it into the USB port on my PC. Specifically, every time I attach the phone using the Motorola-supplied USB cable into my PC's USB port, MotoCast opens up and goes to a live tutorial website AND it opens up windows explorer showing me all of the files from my phone/MotoCast.

This is troublesome for 2 reasons: (1) it's a pain in the butt to have to manually close all these open applications on my PC; and (2) I lose my assigned ringtones every time and I have to redo them!

Please, can anyone explain (on a 5th grade level) how I can stop this from happening. I'm quite the technological idiot so please be as specific as possible. *newbie alert!*

I'm very grateful for your kind guidance.

when the taskbar tray icon comes up, all I did was check "do nothing" when device is plugged in,,, worked for me after that
Thanks, r9ball. I did try this and was halfway successful. Choosing "do nothing" does indeed disable the pc from automatically opening the tutorial website, however, it doesn't stop all the windows explorer files from coming up and I still lose my ring tones.

Thanks so much for your good advice, I'm halfway there! :)

When you connect your phone to the PC it is in Mass Storage mode. This will cause your ringtones to stop.Press the following... Notification Tray>Connected as Mass Storage>Media Device(MTP) I just called myself while connected with MTP and my ringtone played. I don't know what this allows/doesn't allow though. And it doesn't charge your phone whilst connected.

MTP mode allows your phone to still access storage while simultaneously being able to access your SD from your computer.

edit: charging is possible in MTP mode, but your usb ports may not provide enough "juice" aka amperage. Try a different one, like on the back of the computer or a different one if on a laptop.

Thanks, arparaspolo! That's great advice and great explanation. I'm so impressed with the amazing amount of knowledge everyone here is so happy to share.

Thank you for the extra clarification, syntrix. Going to try it right now and see if my phone will charge up. You are SMART!!
