Motorola Droid FM Tuner application?

looking for a way to play my music off my droid in the car. Is there an application for this, such as an FM tuner application

Does the Droid have an FM tuner chip built into it?

I have been using a 3rd-party FM transmitter that plugs into my Droid's headphone out. It works great, but it would be even better if I didn't have to use it.

The Droid doesn't have an FM transmitter, so this won't be possible without buying extra hardware.

If your car's radio supports bluetooth then it might be doable, but I don't know of any cars that have this capability.

Actually, the Droid's Bluetooth WiFi chip MAY have an FM transmitter/receiver built into it. Although unmarked, it is assumed by many to be the TI WL1271, which does have an FM transmitter/receiver. No Android software has so far accessed it, though, but with the phone having recently been rooted it may only be a matter of time before someone unlocks that little goody. For now, you will need a separate device, but that may not always be the case. Every week it seems some new feature of the Droid comes into focus, and its versatility is astounding.

3.5mm cable? I just use a double-male ended 3.5mm cable, but your car has to have a jack already installed for this to work.

I use a wireless device for my 5th generation iPod that allows me to listen to music wirelessly in the car. Its called iTrip. This won't work for our Droids because the plug on the iTrip is made for the iPod but it would be cool if they made a version again that plugged into the headphone jack. I used to have a 1st generation iPod and a iTrip that plugged into the headphone jack and was able to listen to my ipod wirelessly in the car.

Also in the Apps Market, I DID find an app called FM Locator. It doesn't do anything but tell you what stations to use should you have a transmitter. I installed it anyway.

My question is would it play everything on your phone? For example, could I stream iheartradio stations through my car's speakers too?

For me the best way to stream programs like iheartradio and droidlive is through my bluetooth speakerphone. The Motorola T505 will announce which FM station is the most clear and available and does a great job of streaming anything from my phone to my car stereo speakers (and of course I use it for my phone calls while driving). Not a bad investment for about $80.
