If ordering the phone on-line, does one just pick a service plan on-line as well?

Since I'll be new to Verizon, I was hoping a Verizon sales rep would help me figure out the right service plan for me (I know I have to include the $29.99 'data plan' but there are lots of options as to the underlying voice & messaging minutes etc.)

Also, if someone who's new to Verizon orders on-line rather than at a store or through a real-person sales rep at Verizon's toll-free sales #, how will I know how to activate the phone and transfer my mobile # from AT&T to Verizon when the phone arrives in the mail?

I believe I read in the comments of an Engadget post that if you're porting your current number from another carrier, you'll need to go into a store.

You can actually do everything online, including porting your number :) I did that with my last line I added, ported a number over from ATT.

Make sure you do not cancel service on the line with the number you want ported until AFTER the port is complete.
