Motorola XT910 Random screen or sound off

I just got a Motorola RAZR XT910 from Rogers (Canada) last week. So far I have experienced a couple of problems:

1. when I am using the phone, occasionally the screen just shuts off (shrinks to a horizontal line) as if I pressed the power button. I was sure that my finger was nowhere near the power button.

When I press the power button to turn it on again, whatever I was doing was resumed and the unlock screen was not presented at all.

I have not been able to figure out anything that triggers this. I could be browsing the web, using some app, etc. It seems random to me so far.

2. I normally have silent mode on but today I have sound on. Sound usually works, but two times in the day the sound just got turned off somehow: I get the green LED notification but the sound never goes off (I can't remember if I got vibrate or not). I turned on the phone and checked all the sound settings, and everything is supposed to be on. In fact I get no sound from any application. When I tried to put the phone to sleep, it told me that some media application is still running and I must quit that first. I opened the list of running applications but I can't find any media application...

I couldn't get phone to turn back on regardless of what I tried, until I rebooted the phone.

Has anyone experienced these? Are there any fixes/workarounds?

I also have the same unit.
I have a hunch the reason why your screen just turns of whenever is because of the in-pocket detection feature. It's in settings. When this is on, the sensor on the top left of your phone is active. I noticed that when there's absence of light or even if you acidentally cover that sensor, it triggers to shut the screen (thinking like it's in your pocket). You can turn it off anyway. :) I experienced the same thing with the speaker. I rebooted twice and it worked again. I guess it got something to do with with conflicting media apps (requiring sound) turned on at the same time. Try to check your task manager always. Plus, I actually got the sound sound working too when I downloaded the motorola update found in "about phone". It must have updated my sound drive too. Hope this helps. :)
