Help Move Apps to and install new Apps on SD card

Hi

I found nothing on this in the Galaxy Ace forum.

The phone memory has about 30M left and only one App is installed on the SD card, new Apps will only install on the Phone.

When I go to Manage Applications the Move to SD card is not active.

How do I fix this and how do I get new Apps to install on the SD card.

I have tried app2sd but it would not move the one App that it found was movable.

Thanks for any help.

Daniel

If Move to SD is not active then you cannot move that app to the sd card, not even the app2sd or any other app can help you.
This phone has a very limited internal memory, so you can install a very limited number of apps.
I'd suggest you install apps that can be moved to sd card, and install only those that you need. For getting more space in the internal memory you can clear cache, clear data of apps etc. Search in the forums, there are lots of ways to increase free memory but all are temporary solutions, you will have to redo them after a while and not a lot of memory will be obtained from it.

There is only one permanent solution to this problem, ROOT!
Root your phone, partition your card, install a script and use the sd card as internal memory.

Hi

thanks for your reply and advice.

How can I tell if an App can be installed to SD card?

I have read a lot about Rooting and it seems quite complicated, if I Root and it goes wrong, what are the consequences?

Thanks

Daniel

The Move to SD will be active if the app can be moved. But most of the popular apps are usually not movable.

Rooting, its the most basic and least complex, what you do after you have rooted(giving superuser access to apps) can cause damage if done wrong.
But as long as you don't go completely out of the way, don't read properly, ignore warnings and suggestions there isn't much to worry about. I am a root user, been rooted for a year now, never had much problem, i am running android 4.1.2 custom hybrid rom with a 500mb internal memory, what more can you want in a phone released 2 years ago. :D:D

I had this problem with my old phone when I would try to move apps to save space. But not all apps will still work and run if it was to be moved to the SD card, which is why you can't. But some apps, such as games will allow you to move them to the SD card.
