Move to Android from WinMob

Hi Guys

I'm looking at either a Milestone or HD2. Now I really like the HD2 BUT it has the usual HTC BS issues with a buggy frontend and generaly, like all HTC stuff, being excellent in principle but rushed out and becomes major fail.

So, this brings me to a Milestone (i'm in the UK).

I'm very tempted by this as its similar in form factor to my current Acer M900 - large screen and slide keyboard. But before I do, i'm a little confused by some stuff and was hoping you guys can help me please?


- I am a hardcore Office user on my WinMobs, can I get full office functionality on the Droid? I need full outlook sync including tasks. I need to be able to edit Excel and Word and at least look at PowerPoint presentations.

- I also need OneNote or something VERY similar on Android that will sync to my PC as well, can this be done

Can these two requirements currently be met? also, I understand that unlocked (not rooted) phones cannot purchase apps, is this true and will affect any alternative apps you suggest?

Currently no Android offerings, or any other platform, matches WinMo's office capabilities. And it's odd you have had problems with HTC devices... Maybe its different in the UK? I know I have been more than pleasantly suprised with EVERY HTC device I have owned, and the only reason I own a samsung now, is b/c HTC didn't have a slider Android for my carrier.

Now that being said, The HD2 is quite simply the best hardware on the market, and it sounds like WinMo does fit your needs, so I would recommend the HD2 for you. Several phone reviews, including phonearena, have dubbed it as the fastest phone they have ever used. Period. And if you don't like the HTC UI, you can always disable it and put your own on. They come in many flavors and generally work very well. They even have an Android inspired one, with widgets and multiple screens. Hope this helps. The only thing I *personally* don't like about the HD2.... no qwerty.

Touch FLO 3D on the HTD Diamond was a bit of a disaster but HTC have further developed it and it's a lot better now. Touch Sense on their Android phones is great.

After I posted I later found out that Androids Exchange support was limited, even with 2.0 and I would end up using 3rd party apps for which I could not clear information about. So, that for me was sadly a deal breaker for Android

I have indeed ended up buying a HD2 and am aware of some "issues" with it, such as stuck outbound SMS's. Being from the UK and going back for a week to the UK I will use it for the weeks and excercise my consumer rights should I feel the need (Distance Selling & Sales of Goods act). Hopefully i won't though.


Indeed the TouchFlow 3d was a bit pants ... I used to own a Diamond for about a month before I returned it! On my Acer I have my own legal copy of SPB Shell 3.5 which I think is awesome so, should the Sense thing turn out to be buggy/pants, I'll swap back to that.

Thanks for letting me know about office support, guess staying with Winmo was my only option, maybe Android in a year or so?
