Help Moving aps to sd

This might be a n00b question but what are the benifits of moving an ap to sd card?

Save space on your internal memory. But I haven't have to on my indulge, 2gb of space. My wife has the optimus with only 200mb and she is constantly running out of space

Anything I download on my Optimus has to go to the SD card. Only have 31 megs left! Miss the storage space on the Indulge.

Wow, I didn't realize the Optimus had so little internal storage, e gads!

I'll go ahead and add that to all the rest of my "reasons why the Indulge or Esteem are the only Android phones worth having on Metro" arguments.
