Moving to a new Google account

My current Google life is based around my work account. I want to move everything over to my personal Google account to give me a bit of work-life balance.

I've got a Nexus 5 phone.

Am I able to run two Google accounts on there? I'm not fussed about switching between them like a tablet buy just want to be able to buy apps in my personal account whilst still using the apps in my business account.

Is that possible? Any advice would be welcome.

Olly

Yes it's perfectly possible - but you'll only be able to use the apps associated with the account you are currently using, you can't share apps between accounts.

I've been using two Google accounts, work and personal with great success on my much loved Nexus 5.

It's especially nice since the phone is so fast, reliable and stable. I couldn't be happier.

Thanks. So when you buy an app does it prompt you to chose which account to buy it with?

Do you see things like recommendations in the play store for both accounts.?

Olly

The two accounts will be completely separate, the Play store uses the one that is currently active. For all practical purposes they each behave as though the other doesn't exist, as does the Play Store.

but.. does the phone.. use any app that is loaded/installed. no matter which account is active???

If you have more than one account installed on your device, then in the Play Store app settings you can choose the account you want to use. The active one can be changed anytime. This way, apps from multiple accounts can be installed on the same device.

When using the Play Store you are not prompted to choose an account, the account selected in settings is assumed.

You will get recommendations for the selected account.

The phone will use all apps regardless which account is presently active or which account was used to install the app.

I simply have to ask ... why do you want two accounts on the same device that is only used by you? Like I said ... I had to ask.

Ill take a stab at it...

the phone is a work phone.. provided by the company.
they pay the bills on it.. it created the account for it.. emails and all.

there are some apps/games/what-not that he wants personally.
they company would not like to see those purchases on the bill.

so if he can create a 2nd account for the phone.. tie his creditcard to it.
so he can buy any thing he wants for that phone. he can also take that account to other phones.. if he leaves the company.

Interesting.

Doesn't that also mean that he has to logoff/logon with the other account to check on what updates need to be installed? Otherwise no updates would get done for the other account.

(I have about 200 apps installed from Play Store and on average 6-8 have updates every day.)

I have an amazon appstore account..
got some free apps.. that I like from them.

but I can get them updated on google playstore.

so.. I don't think google playstore cares how the app got on your phone.
they will take care of it.

Just select another account. No logoff/logon required.
