MP3 Output via USB

I have a flip out DVD screen/player in my car... It has a USB port.

When I connect it via USB and choose USB on the car unit.. It doesn't do an audio output. The USB port is meant for a MP3 player..

I've tried mounting it and not mounting it, neither would work.. I've only tried it with Pandora..

Is there a setting or program that would help with this?

Thanks for any help.

USB has two variations... You would need "Host" in order to make it work this way, and 90% of the portable devices available (phones included) do not have usb host.

Sorry.

So it's not even possible if someone develops a program?

Nope. It is a hardware limitation. USB power consumption is rather high, so handhelds are designed this way to prevent you from killing the battery in 20 minutes or less by powering something else with the battery from your handheld devices.

Sorry to tease, but I installed a new headunit in my car last month (Pioneer) with USB and iPod cabable. The Flash card loads via the unit's USB just fine once I select mount on the phone(Hero). All mp3's, directory structure and all load just fine. As a matter of fact, the USB cable CHARGES the phone too, was playing mp3s via flash card to the car stereo and was browsing the web with the phone too (no, I was not driving, lol)

Point is... the headunit cost $160 (US$) and is awesome, you might want to look at getting a new car stereo, they have em' even cheaper with the same capability. Cost is close to the other stuff shown here and you get a new car stereo to boot...

:D

Oh, if you do decide to do it... Use Crutchfield, they supply the adapter plate, wiring adapter, antenna extension and shipping, all free! hahaha

Happy Trails!

I have a Pioneer head unit too with the same iPod and USB connections... I'm sure I can do the MP3 thing... But I was hoping to get Pandora to work in the same manner.

Any thoughts?

Sure, does the unit have the headphone aux (3.5mm) jack on the front? If so, that can be used to pass the audio from Pandora to the unit... I don't think audio will route through the usb from the web on the phone.

Regards.
