MP3 Playback is horrible

MattG

Newbie
Anyone else having this on their N1? The MP3 playback is absolutely terrible quality. 320kbps MP3s sound absolutely horrific. By way of comparison, Pandora literally sounds 20x better.

Haven't listened to an mp3 yet, but did think Pandora sounded fine on the speaker. I'll try and get back with you.

All my music sounds pretty good from me coming from an iPod and Blackberry. The Nexus One gives it a little extra bass too. I'm not using shitty headphones either, using the Shure E2C in ears.

Coming from an iphone, i don't see a drop in quality through headphones...

i'm getting used to this phone and my iphone is an afterthought!

My droid sounds great thru my bose QC3 headphones and thru my bluetooth stereo in my car. Can't imagine N1 sounds any different since its the same software.

Its sounds terrible using my Westone UM3 and Shure SE530. No clarity just crappy cheap bass...Source is FLAC so....its the hardware

Music sounds the same on the nexus as it does on my touch. I wonder why some of you are getting such a noticeable difference

It's because we have higher quality sound sensitivity than you.

Sounds kinda like it might be overdriving mp3's a bit. Listening through Future Sonics Atrio M5's.

i was suggesting it was a bias on your part (no malice meant tho). the same mp3 files sound the same in my ear buds, headphones and both HT systems on the touch and nexus  i notice the difference in sound quality in various blu-ray movies, i would hope i could notice one on my flac files too

here's some feedback on xda about the sound quality

Audio quality of the Nexus One - xda-developers

FYI these are the headphones I am using. Playing music from my Zune (and previously HTC TP2 and iPhone) on them was always crystal clear.

it's the stock Nexus One ear buds that are horrible... I'm using my iphone ear buds (the Nexus One buds were SOOOO trebley and tin-ey sounding, zero bass even by ear bud standards....) the iphone ear buds aren't known to be the best, but they sound 100 times better than the Nexus buds....

MattG - maybe try non-in-ear style ear phones? The Nexus One buds are shyte... but maybe try something else - either borrowed from a friend or try out at an audio shop?

i've personally never liked in ear buds, they transmit too much noise when you hit the cable or something brushes up next to the ear bud's exterior (like a hat or something like that)...

I tried using the headphones I use for my PC as well with worse results than my in-ear Bose headphones. Again, Pandora sounds perfectly fine. MP3 playback is just terribad.

i find the sound quality very good - provide you don't use the horrible Nexus One ear phones... they sound like $#!t

i use my iphone buds and sounds great! most of my tunes are .m4a DRM-free files from iTunes... those are typically better sounding than MP3s...
