MS BT Mobile Keyboard 6000 w/ Samsung Galaxy 5.0 Player - caret keys?

The microsoft bluetooth mobile keyboard 6000 only part-way works with the Samsung Galaxy 5.0 Player. I can write a post in a forum with ease using the keyboard - as I am now - but it has trouble with left and right caret keys (less than and greater than). Also, it has trouble with caplocks. If you double-tap the shift key, it's the same as using the caps lock key. You have to hit shift and the caps lock key again to get out of caps lock. Right and left arrows are actually up and down. Up and down keys are sort of sometimes actually right and left.

I don't think the problem lies with the keyboard. I think the problem lies with the mapping of the keyboard. Android is trying to map the touch keypad key system to the microsoft keyboard, which has a lot more keys and capabilities.

It's not such a big deal if you're writing a post, but when I'm in connectbot or some other program that could benefit from right and left carets, I am unable to access them. Bummer!

I would like to know if anyone knows of an app that properly maps bluetooth keyboards to the android system. I'd like my arrow keys and varoius other keys back where they belong, please.

EDIT: (from desktop): I've just found that the caret keys are sometimes available if I hit some quirky combination of alt, shift and something else, but only forums, not for connectbot. Alternatively, if you know of another method for accessing the < and > keys, I'd be grateful.
