mtalk

Fabel

Lurker
I track all Domain connections on my network. There is an Android phone that is connecting to mtalk.google.com. Is this connection made only when mtalk is being used or is this a conncection google makes automatically sometimes?

Thanks for your assistance.

Google can't connect to your router and, unless you're forwarding whatever port mtalk uses to a phone or computer on your network, nothing can connect using that port. They could be trying to connect, but it won;'t do anything. (Whether you see failed incoming attempts depends on what you're monitoring. If it's all LAN and WAN packets, you'll see it even if it's not addressed to your router.)

I know google is not connecting from outside my network. My question is does mtalk connect from the Android device automatically like other google conections such as
179tools.google.com 7 This domain resolved normally.
180pki.google.com 7 This domain resolved normally.
181dl.google.com 7 This domain resolved normally.

or does mtalk only aquire a domain connection when mtalk is in use on the android device on my network?

Hi fabel,
I have noticed that too from my phone. My ok Google , voice commands is supposed to be disabled. What did you make of it? Does that mean all of our conversation are sent for a scan ?

I think Mtalk is a VOIP app. Could be it's just periodically pinging or handshaking with its server, to show that the client is online and so it can receive incoming calls etc. I've never used used it though, and I don't know what connection it has with Google.

I am curious if MTalk might be hangouts trying to make a connection. Try and delete hangouts on your phone. I get the same thing. I will get alt.mtalk.google then alt1, 2, etc.,
