MTP failing

Hi I recently got a head unit for my car and it works great its a alpine CDE 123 and it works great with smartphones, Its one of the only head units that supports MTP and can connect and use the headunits controls to change tracks and search songs ect... but it seems when i rooted my phone all went down hill and i plug my phone in (samsung galixy s2) (rooted) it keeps saying unsupported.. so i unrooted my phone and just for a clean slate I formatted everything and re installed it to stock and now everything works fine again.. exept I want the phone to be rooted.. i cant see why its the problem but ive done this twice and the same problem twice.. any ideas on why the root may cause this?

Nope I tried that.. grr it must be something I'm doing like a 3rd party app or something. i dont understand.

When you rooted your phone, had you loaded a custom rom? That may make my hunt harder.
