Multiple contacts?

I have read through the multiple contacts threads on here and none of them seem to describe my issue. The problem is in the adding an sms recipient or sending email or adding a favorite my contact list has triple, doubles, and more. However in the contacts app on my Captivate it only shows 1 contact.

what is going on and how can i fix this?

What I am saying is when I go to add a text msg recipient or add someone to my favs it shows triples of all my contacts but when i go into my people book it only shows 1

i had this recently. log into google via computer, and go to my contacts. what you will find is your merged contacts, having triple of the same number. it has been happening to me as i've synced my contacts, after various wipes and things of that nature. i simply deleted all the mulitples.
