Multiple wearables..?

I currently have a galaxy s8+ and a gear s3 frontier, both of which I love (discounting the sucky battery life on both). If I were to get another watch, one of the hybrid Fossils for example, to keep track of my activity while the gear rests on the charger, would syncing the data with apps like Samsung health (or whatever) cause issues or will those apps be able to combine the data from both devices?

That's a tough one to answer, particularly since you posted in the Android Wear section about a watch which runs Samsung's Tizen OS (instead of Wear OS) and are considering getting a hybrid smartwatch which runs a completely different system.

I can say that I haven't encountered any problems using multiple Wear OS watches with Google Fit - but again, that's completely different hardware running a completely different operating system and a completely different fitness platform.

My apologies, I didn't realize that it was meant to be WearOS only. However, the syncing of basic step data should really be watch platform independent and really more on the receiving app to not mangle the incoming info. I would assume.

I would assume.

You know what they say about that. ;)

If both (all?) devices were using the same app or services, I would say it would be pretty seamless, but understand that Samsung likes to pretend it's Apple by creating Samsung-only apps that don't play well with non-samsung devices. And a Fossil hybrid might have such limited sync services that it can't connect to the common accounts or databases you are looking for.

A better way to ask the question would be to ask specifically about the apps or types of data you want to share.

All I really want to keep synced is the daily step data. I just like having the info. I am not tied to the Samsung health app and even though I do like this watch, I am willing to replace it. I need something to keep track of steps/distance and notifications from the phone is nice (even nicer if I can answer, reply and control music). I would like something that resembles a 'normal' watch, not a big square billboard. It doesn't have to have native GPS. There is just soo much info (sometimes conflicting) that I gave up and bought the gear s3.

I have a feeling there is probably a general concensus in this forum about the best solid all around watch. Please, lay it on me. Thanks.

Unfortunately, no, there probably isn't. Wearables are likely the device type which are most subject to personal preference. Appearance/style seems to play a much larger role when looking at something to wear on your wrist all day rather than selecting a phone which will stay in your pocket. There are a huge number of different styles just in the Wear OS market alone - in fact, that's the primary way that one Wear OS watch is distinguished from another. They all offer essentially the same software experience.

So while I'd immediately jump to recommending a Pixel phone for pretty much anyone, there isn't a smartwatch that I can recommend in the same way.

You mentioned Fossil in your first post so you might want to look at their Smartwatches like the Q Explorist rather than a limited hybrid smart watch. I have an older Fossil Q Founder that's my daily driver for close to two years now and I still am not thinking about replacing it for the foreseeable future. One of the main reasons I went with Fossil is because it wears like a real watch and not something Dick Tracy might be using. ;)

That said I bought a buddy an ASUS Zenwatch as a birthday gift last year and he loves it. From a software/useability standpoint they are pretty much able to do the same things, it's just a matter of how we differ in our configurations. Like @codesplice said, It's all about the look and feel for most people of the physical watch itself.

I appreciate your candor. Then how about this, what WearOS watch(es) reliably get over 24 hrs of battery life? With actual daily use, not non stop mindless fiddling, but checking alerts and step count every so often. Can you recommend any?

Most of the reviews I find seem to wildly swing both directions. I have a feeling there may be a healthy serving of the old ID-10T error at play.

All I can tell you is from my own personal experience. My very first smartwatch was the original Moto360. It was ... um ... not great with battery life. Maybe 10 hours on a good day and less as it ages. After only 18 months I was lucky to get 5 hours until the battery crapped out on me.

The Fossil OTOH is great. I put it on around 8 a.m. and by the time I take it off 12 or so hours later, it is still showing a 50% charge, and I do use custom watch faces (which can drain batteries faster ... sometimes), and check messages all day long (and that's probably in the neighborhood of 100-200/day).

Mind you this is a piece of technology and any watch is subject to bugs and glitches. I have had a few instances where a process gets "stuck" on and it drains the battery exceptionally fast and always before I realize it's happening. A reboot of the watch generally fixes that. Murphy's law of technology states that the more important the message, the more likely it is to happen. ;) But, in general it's been a very reliable device.

So high praise for Fossil? I finally got desperate and got the Explorist. Should be here in next couple days and I'm beyond excited. Wear OS still has a way to go, but I'm along for the ride.

A coworker just picked up an Explorist. Seems really nice.

Let me know if you're able to install Hangouts after the Wear OS 1.0 update. :D

Yes indeedy. I was close to getting the Explorist as well, but my Founder still works so damn well, that I really don't have a legitimate reason.

I was able to install Hangouts no problem on my Founder running Wear OS 2.10.1 (so says System Info)

Yeah it seems like it works with the Wear OS (app) version 2.10.1, but may have issues after the Wear OS (OS) version 1.0. Still waiting for the Wear OS OS update on my (AT&T) LG Watch Sport.

(Yes, 1.0 is newer than 2.10.1.... because Google.)

I may try just for heck of it, but Hangouts is so annoying (at times) I never actually installed it on the HW1. I checked one out at a Outlet store, thing looks amazing.

Yea, I would have stuck with the HW1, but charger is annoying as hell and no more updates. I tried going back to my ZW2 and coupldn't believe how small it was compared to HW1. And while I love ASUS, disappointed in the (non) support for the ZW3.
