Multiple "widgets" on screen for several different apps

It may be addressed already but I can't find the correct thread (sorry)
for this question. I am seeing exact copies of apps-specifically Market, Contacts, and MetroBackup. These were not showing before and I would really like to know how they got there and what to do to bring them down to their original state. Thanks! I am looking forward to your response(s)

Those sound like icons, not widgets. And just long press them for a sec and drag them to the trash can at the bottom. That only deletes the icon, not the app. I don't know how the copies got there, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.
