Help Music files no longer visible in Google Play Music (Verizon)

Troy R

Lurker
Hi,
A couple of weeks ago, I went to play some of the music on my phone (LG G4 although I don't think this issue is specific to my phone) and noted that only one of my songs was listed in the App. I had close to a hundred up to that point. When I went digging around, I noted that I could still see them through the File Manager application but clearing history and cache in the music app didn't fix the issue as it had for some. After looking at the file structure while connected to my PC, I noted that all my music files were in not in the "Music" folder near the root of the file structure but were instead in a Verizon specific structure (Internal Storage/Verizon Content Transfer/storage/emulated/0/Music) that was several folder levels deeper. From the naming convention, it appears this is where the Verizon Cloud backup application kept them so it could sync them. A while ago they restructured this service so you have to pay for the storage and I'm no longer backing up my music to the cloud. My guess is that either Google or Verizon made a change that causes Google Play Music to no longer recognize the "Music" folder in the Verizon structure which is why almost all my music no longer showed up. The fix was to copy all the Music under the "Music" folder near the root of the file structure. Other than my playlists, I am able to view all my music again.
Hopefully this helps a few people avoid wasting a lot of time.
