Music player for working out

I was going to work out with my S3 for the first time and had a bad experience with the music player. First of all, the headphones I usually use with buttons to change the track don't work correctly. Instead of a new song they change the volume as the ones that came with the phone do. Also, I can't select a new track from the lock screen like I used to be able to do. I had to unlock the screen every time I wanted to change the track, which was often. Anyway to change either, or preferably both, of these complaints, or should I download a new media player? If so, any recommendations for what I'm looking for?

The headphones that come with the phone change tracks.. or did I misread your post? Anyhow, to add music controls to the lock screen, I believe u will need widgetlocker or something similar to customize your lockscreen if your not using headphones with android controls on it. Samsung/android really needs to add this capability if it doesn't already exist on the stock OS. It's probably a security issue imo.. private audio u wouldn't want people accessing maybe... not sure.

The first app I bought on my S3 is poweramp which is the best audio player, supports switching between tracks using holding down the up/down volume buttons, and has many equalizer options!

you can try the demo free for 15 days and decide for yourself
 
Go Locker allows you to scroll to the the second page of a lock screen and scroll through music. LOVE IT! Bought a belt clip case on amazon (one that allows the screen to face outwards so you can still control the screen) and I'm good to go at the gym.
 
doubletwist has lock screen controls (free option). poweramp looks like it does as well, from the screenshots on the play store. and ive seen several people speak highly of it

Hmmm... Unless there's some trick to it I'm unaware of the ones mine came with just do volume. The buttons are even labeled as such.
 
I use PlayerPro, it has a great lockscreen widget, and you can change what the headphone buttons do in the headphone settings PlayerPro has, which is very useful.
 
i think poweramp is the best. Unfortuanley i get a random buzzing sound with the S3. Hopefully it gets fixed in an update.

It also has the locksreen controls you are looking for.

One thing i would like when i work out, since my headphones dont' have controls, is to use Vol +/- to change tracks. I haven't acutally tried looking for it in poweramp, so it may be there.
 
Mixzing is another really music player that has the option of adding a music widget for the lock screen.

How do you get it to scroll to the second page of the lock screen?
 
One other tip for the stock player, you don't have to unlock the screen to change tracks. There is a mini-player on the notification screen. Just pull down the tab from teh top and there it is.

Except.... If you have the music player displayed full screen when you lock the screen. So it the home button first or use the player widget to play music.
