Music players wont reconize music

I downloaded 10g of music to my SD card. like 2k songs or so, and i can open the containing folder and play they songs directly from my card on my android. but when i open a music player and say click on artist or all songs none show up, but i can play the songs from the folder on that media player. they just cant be categorized or sorted. it worked before with about 500 songs. but i did something wrong and now it will not work. can anyone help me?

I have the music save on my sd card as "music"

What phone? What android version? Are you rooted? What is the source of the mp3's? Are they from itunes (DRM)? Are they mp3 or another format? Are the id3 tags correct?
