Help Music volume drives to zero with headphones plugged in

I have a new S3 with Jellybean that I have only had for a few weeks. Several times while I have been listening to Pandora or Slacker the volume will drive on zero. If I try to raise the volume using the rocker button on the phone or the volume slider on Pandora, once I release it, the volume drives back to zero. I have not been able to repeat it enough to troubleshoot it. The last time it happened, I tried unplugging the headphones and the volume stopped changing. But when I plugged the headphones back in, the volume didn't change either. So I don

No, I happens randomly while a song is playing. Usually while I am working out and the phone is sitting on the machine. Noting and no one are touching the buttons. I say usually, but it has only happened 3 times in the past 2 1/2 weeks I have had the phone.

Could still be a defective button. Defective buttons can make contact entirely on their own.

Any chance the headphone jack is loose? Is there anything wrong with the wiring on the headphone? My dog eats our cables sometimes and when plugged int they can short the phone out and cause it to reset and other off behavior.

Since it only happens when you have the headphones plugged in, I really lean towards it being something to do with the headphones and not the volume rocker on the side of the phone. If it's a problem with the volume rocker sticking, it wouldn't only happen when headphones are plugged in. You don't mention it, but any chance the headphones have a built-in volume control on them? And has this happened with different pairs of headphones, or just the same pair every time? I'd suggest starting with a different set of headphones, and going from there.

Another one with this issue. Absolutely infuriating when your on a 14km run and the music turns itself off and you have to stop, unplug the phone, wrestle it back into your jogging case, and run with the music on speaker!!

Has happened with 2 different sets of headphones and one of them was the set supplied with the phone. Is this a known bug and is there a fix?

Edit: it only happens with headphones, and it just seems to happen randomly.
