music won't shuffle

i have a galaxy note 2 and love it. however, i cannot get the music player to shuffle. I tried to find the songs tab noted in one of the answers, but only see:
all, playlists, albums, artist, music square, folders, nearby devices.

is the songs tab located in this space? thanks for your help. Linda

While in the stock music player, scroll the top headings the right, and up at the top left you should see "all". Click on that heading, and the option to choose "shuffle" should pop up at the top left, right under the "all" heading.
