Must have apps?

Are there any apps that I actually need for my Droid? I had antivirus and it kept giving me an error message. Someone said Linux doesn't get viruses. I have no idea. Something was causing my phone to freeze while scrolling.

I uninstalled quite a few apps, but kept the games (3 or 4) and Dictionary/Thesaurus/Wikipedia/Wapedia widgets. I've also got MotoTorch LED and WeatherBug. Why is everything lagging? I'm using Home++ and I really like it. Before that, I tried PandaHome.

I've tried Opera Mini, Dolphin Browser, and one other free browser. Sometimes GoogleTalk launches and runs in the background. I never use it or any other IM applications.

Is there a way to clear cache on the Droid? Run antivirus and malware scans?

To top it all off, my screen won't come on when I take the phone away from my ear. That's pretty annoying when I'm on a call with an automated system. As you know, numbers need to be pressed to access menus, etc. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I don't know a lot about the specifics of the Droid, but you can clear the cache for individual apps by going in to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and then choose each application one by one and empty its cache.

Somewhere at some point I saw an option to clear ALL caches, but now I can't find it. It may have been in an app manager I uninstalled, but I am looking for it.

As for viruses on Android, I don't really know. It's theoretically possible, but someone more knowledgeable than I would have to give you a better answer.
