Help Must I have a google email account to publish to google play?

Android Question

When I try to create an email to publish an android app using this URL:

https://play.google.com/apps/publish

It directs me to log in via my google account. Is it possible to publish an android app with a non-google account, such as a godaddy account?

Any of the other Google tools require a Google account, I don't see why app publishing would be any different. It doesn't mean you need to use GMail, just that the Google Account is how they will authenticate you to publish into the Play store I think.

How can I have a google account without gmail? If I enter in a godaddy email and password, it will say email is not recognized. And then it prompts me to create a gmail account.

Ok apparently it does let you create an account with your own email address.
Oh good. I thought that was the case, but I've had a gmail account since before there was any other google login, so my gmail login has always been my google account. I wasn't positive, but my understanding was that you didn't need the gmail part.
