You: is verizon getting rid of unlimited data?
Corrie: Once our new plan takes affect we will no longer be renewing the unlimited data plans.
You: what if i already have it?
Corrie: Then you will be able to keep it until you upgrade to a new phone and then we will require you to go to the new plans.
You: when does this take effect?
Corrie: June 28th.
You: what is the pricing for the new data plans?
Corrie: Would you like me to send you a link for the new plan?
You: yes
Corrie: Ok one moment please.
Corrie: Click here to view Share Everything Plans
You: sounds like a bad deal to me
You: $50 for only 1GB of data?
Corrie: The more devices you have to share data the better the deal is.
You: i wont be sharing anything
Corrie: I understand.
You: am i correct on the 1GB price?
Corrie: Yes.
Corrie: But you get the unlimited talk and text for all lines also.
You: i only have one line, it seems this is plan that will benifit familys only
You: what about individuals?
Corrie: The individual plans will be on the same price scale.
You: this is a complet rip off
You: complete
Corrie: You are not required to go to this plan.
You: u said i was, when i upgrade my phone i have too
Corrie: You are not required to upgrade your phone.
Corrie: If you buy a phone at the full retail price and not renew your contract you will be able to keep your current plan.
You: who wants to buy a phone at full retail
You: you guys are going to have a lot of angry customers
Corrie: Some people think that it is worth pay full price to keep their unlimited data.
You: verizon should let people that have unlimited data keep even when they upgrade to a new phone
You: grandfaterd
Corrie: I am sorry.
You: That's great, if you need unlimited talk and text, and don't use data for hardly anything. Problem is, most people with a smartphone are exactly the opposite, and Verizon knows that. That's why these plans are structured this way; to make it look like they're giving you a good deal while charging you considerably more for the one commodity that actually matters: data.
Corrie: Our customers asked us for shared data and that is what we are offering now.
You: i dont know why cause you will be playing a lot more
You: why would i want to pay $50 for only 1GB when i get unliminted for $30 now
Corrie: This is something that our customers have been asking for for awhile now.
You: to pay more for data, i dont think so
Corrie: The Shared Data is what they have been asking for.
Corrie: The more devices you have the better a deal you will get and the more money you will save.
Corrie: How much are you paying for your plan now?
You: $72 a month
Corrie: So you have a single plan with one smartphone?
You: yes
Corrie: Ok so with the Share plan you are getting unlimited data a unlimited texting and 2gb of data for $100.
Corrie: With the old plans if you were to get unlimited data an unlimited text with 2gb of data you would pay 119.99 so that would be saving $20.
You: my point eactly i would be paying more
You: i dont need or care about unliminted talk or text
Corrie: Ok but a majority of our customers do want the unlimited plans.
You: un no they don't have u checked verizon youtube page
You: it's all negative comments
You: Share Everything Plan - YouTube
You: just look at the comments
You: no one wants this
You: and the video is geeting all thumbs down for the most part
Corrie: Most reviews and comments are negative....people that are satisfied do not feel it neccessary to comment or add reviews.
You: lots of people add good reviews
Corrie: I apologize.
Corrie: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
You: nope

You tell that low wage Verizon employee. She'll see she was wrong about instituting the horrible shared data plans. She is the CEO, right? Oh, then is she the CFO? CIO, COO CMO?
Nope, she's just a costumer rep who works Verizon's internet chat page.

i get where you went with that convo. But there is nothing a rep will be able to do for you. It does suck for the reps because they're the ones that will be catching all of the heat from this not the Execs that made the decision. It puts them in a bad position to have to deal with people that are upset about this. Personally (and this is just me i know everyone isn't like this) i would actually consider paying full price for a new phone if i really thought i needed unlimited data. I would assume tho that after another year even that will get the axe.

I'm not upset yet. I just renewed my wife and I's unlimited with the sg3's. In two years from now verizon will probably have a whole new structure again, but at least I'm set for now. I'll worry about it in two years.

I purposely try to avoid getting wound up on the phone/ online with the folks on there unless they're acting purposefully rude or negligent about their work. They're just working stiffs like most of the rest of us who have no say over policy and limited ability to change things without a manager's approval. And even the managers/ supervisors can only offer to change so much depending on what they're allowed to do so there's no point in going off on them either. Besides, with very few exceptions, they've always been very polite to me and as helpful as possible within their knowledge and authority. When I had a problem, I just got myself called back by a supervisor to have them deal with it.

For now, I did about the only thing I could and voted with my feet by moving to AT&T and informing Verizon exactly why I did. I was polite when I told them and the person I ended up talking to was also because I've nothing to gain by chewing out a "Customer Loyalty Rep" and they loose more over the long run by not having me as a paying customer than by giving harsh words.

Yeah, I know switching carriers is not an option for everyone, but it was one I could take and I'll settle for giving them my thoughts on the subject that way. Like you said, who knows what things will be like in the future so I'll see if Verizon can offer me a better deal next time my number is up.

The rep is incorrect, there are several options for individual plan.. there's still 2gb for 30 dollars after june the 28th

they will not force you to share data

I don't know. Seems like the Verizon training materials that got posted specifically said even single line had to go with a shared plan, iirc.

It says the exact opposite of that ... iirc :P

I read the manual, and you're both KIND of correct.

If you have a tiered data plan you're allowed to keep that if you upgrade.
 Can remain on their current plans and move within their current
plan set. (i.e. move up or down in minutes).
 Can keep their current plan and upgrade to new equipment when
eligible, BAU.
 Should be encouraged to move to Share Everything to enjoy the
multiple benefits that Share Everything Plans offer.
Unlimited customers can transition to one of these existing data plans (i.e. like the 2GB for $30/mon) keeping the rest of their plan intact

However for new customers:
For new consumer customers, Share Everything Plans are the only
available plans.
