My Galaxy S5 charges weirdly

I just received my Galaxy S5 and it works fine for the most part. However, when I go to charge it the icon for a charging battery appears but it won't actually charge so the phone's battery just drains while it's hooked up. My dad has the same phone but he doesn't have any problems with it. Also sometimes it decides to actually charge if I take it out and plug it back in. I made sure to quit all apps before I hooked it up to charge but it still happens. Is there a way to fix this?

Are you using your phone while it charges? Are you using a USB charger or the factory wall charger. Sometimes depending on what you are doing you are consuming power faster than the charger an consume it. Especially if you are trying to charge via USB. USB (connected to a computer) only supplies .5A of recharging power, where most wall adapters supply 1A or more.

Also, I moved this to the S5 forum where other owners can speak specifically about your phone. Goodluck.:)

1st, use the OEM 2.1 amp charger module with their short charging cable.
That setup will charge the battery in 90 minutes from 10% to 100%

as said above, older chargers are less capable, some at 1.0 amp, most at 0.5 amp...
Most PCs will only allow 0.5 amp charge rate from their USB ports which will only charge at a few percent per hour.

I can sit at my computer and connect the USB cable and talk with a trucker friend who is driving for several hours at a time. The battery will be some better when we are done, but not a lot.

I have USB 3.0 on my computer with the fast charge option in the BIOS, it charges faster than the OE wall charger. Phil
