My mom wants to give me her "new every two" but.....

So, here's my issue. I manage my parent's wireless account and they have a basic, bare bones plan with no text or data. My mom still uses a basic flip phone that's about 4 years old but looks brand new. We were talking this weekend and I was complaining about my eris, and she offered to give me her new every two discount. Well I tried to order the HTC incredible, but the online system was forcing me to change her plan settings so I cancelled it. My question is can I order a new phone with her new every two and keep her old plan and options? If so how? We're both on verizon.

Any help is appreciated!

+1. Talk to them face to face. If you play your cards right, you can usually get some swag thrown in for free-- case, screen protector, etc.

I am not sure these replies are factually accurate.

1. You will need to have a data plan on the line you are upgrading. Since her line doesn't have it, they might give you a problem.

2. If your Eris is giving you problems. Call for help. Once they admit they cant fix it, ask them if you can upgrade to an Incredible. Explain to them the reasons your Eris is not performing up to the expected level. They may offer to upgrade for free, they may have you pay. Hopefully, they will offen it to you for the 2 year upgrade price.

3. SWAG? For what reason? Why in the world would they offer him a case or anything? Do not push your luck. If they let you upgrade for the cheaper price, be happy with it and move on. The "SWAG" they got isnt worth it anyway. Just my opinion.

You don't have to upgrade to a data plan just because you buy a smartphone. Only when you activate it do you have to upgrade. Well, if he activates it on his account (not his mom's) then it will be his account (not her's) that has to have the data plan.

I don't think Verizon makes you activate the phone if you upgrade. They probably assume you will want to, and you will probably have to tell them that you don't. And even explain to them what you're doing and they will understand. It's not against the law or your TOS to use someone else's upgrade, as long as that someone else is a willing participant.

Are you on the same account as your parents? If you are, go on your Verizon account page, you should find an option to transfer her upgrade to your line.

I went to two different stores and they both said it would be cool if I ordered the dinc and put it on her account and then deactivated the dinc and switched back to her old phone. I would then have to re-activate the dinc on my account. The first guy who was fully willing didn't have the phone in stock, the second guy was willing but told me I needed the last four of my mom's social to get the upgrade (even though I have all the secret codes and I'm a registered user on the account). But he also said I could order it online and just activate it to my account so that's what I'll do (probably best since my mom and I don't live in the same city anymore). Hopefully this will work, we'll find out tomorrow when the phone gets here. Thanks for the support!

I'm trying to do something similar so rather then start a new thread:

Upgrade my original droid which is up for an upgrade to a TB, then get rid of my wife's problematic blackberry (no insurance, not up for upgrade) and replace it with my old droid for her with her #.

I was poking around the website trying to figure out how to do it. I was also worried about the blackberry specific data plan messing things up.

Any ideas? Sounds like I'll have to be patient and stop by a shop after work. :o

Yeah, I'd go the route of stopping by a store to do that.

I'm positive it can be done online and all, but in reality, we pay VZW lot's of money each month. Go ahead and use their "concierge service", and let them do the hard work.

If it get's botched, and you notice it on the bill, it's a whole lot easier to get your refund if the switch-over was done at the store, by the VZW people :)
