My Passport flash drive

Make sure you got it formatted as FAT32, because if it's Windows NTFS or something your tablet won't read it.

How are you connecting your USB drive to your tablet? If you're just using a typical USB cable that could be the problem, try using one that includes OTG support like this one:

Are you certain it's a flash drive? "My Passport" is a brand name that Western Digital use for portable hard drives, and if that is what it is then your tablet won't be able to supply enough current for it to work.
Some portable hard drives can take an external power source, which allows you them to be used with tablets or phones, but I don't remember ever seeing such a socket on a My Passport drive.
