My phone says "No Service" or "emergency service only" suddenly...

My phone failed to make any calls and text messages suddenly the day before yesterday.
It said "No Service" or "emergency service only". It was also unable to connect to internet on 4G or 3G.

After restarting several times and moving anywhere, it didn't work yet.

So I went to a customer center of my carrier yesterday noon. It replaced my SIM card.
Now my phone resumes and works well till now.

Well first of all make sure your device data is connected.

•Try going into your < Setting > then <More> and the <Cellular Network> Scroll to < Access Point Name> then in the right upper corner tick the three horizontal dots and that will Reset to default APN.

"Emergency calls only" means that your phone is connected to a network which your carrier has no roaming agreement with, which usually means another network in your home country. This happens when it loses contact with your home network and cannot re-establish it.

I had this problem with a phone that struggled after it came out of a black spot reconnecting... Scanning for mobile networks would reconnect it, but obviously if there isn't a signal or a strong enough signal, your phone can't connect to it.

As was said, SIM card failure is the cause of the issue.
And I asked the service staff what caused the failure of the SIM card. She said she didn't know about it yet.

SIMs fail. They sometimes fail suddenly and completely, sometimes it's more gradual (e.g. losing contact for a few minutes, or until you toggle airplane mode, or until you reboot the phone, before eventually just stopping). I doubt they'll even try to work it out, because it's just one of those things that happens.

Yes, you are right. In fact, it failed suddenly and completely after I was toggling airplane mode.
