Help My phone won't start

My phone won't start, it gets past the G1 screen, but then it just has stays at the ANDROID screen indefinitely. Before this happened I was trying to go through my call log but as soon as I got there, it told me it had to force quit. It also said other programs (which I did not know the names of) were being unresponsive and had to be forcibly closed. I figured a restart might fix the problem, but now the phone won't start. What can I do?

1. Pull the battery, wait five minutes. Reinstall, reboot.

2. If that doesn't work, I would try a factory reset:
-Hold down the home key while turning on the phone.
-Wait for the screen with the triangle and the !
-Push Alt+L
-then Alt+W
-Reboot
