my phone won't start

my friend gave me a phone today at school that he says wasn't charge in a long time
plus he told me it wont charge on a computer because the battery i too low but when i plugged it into the wall nothing happened what should i do now

I would try pulling the battery and putting it back in again. Then try charging it. If that doesn't help...umm...you could also try powering it on after it's plugged in, but if it appears to be charging at all, wait a little, because i think it may not charge while it's booting. Let me know what happens??
