Help My Tab is stuck on ex owner: help!!!

Hi Folks,
I bought a second hand Galaxy Tab, 10.1; GT-7510, 64GB, android 3.1.

I have had an HTC Desire since they came out, so I am not ignorant of Android.

It had Yahoo mail and messenger, and other downloaded apps. I am trying to get it back to "virgin" state, but the damn thing will not forget its past owner.
I have tried all methods of stopping, uninstalling killing these apps but they will not be killed. Even the weather app will not forget the past, and on restarting, it forgets MY new city, but comes back with the last guy's..
Skype will not be uninstalled, nor forget the last ID.

I have tried hard and soft resets with software and buttons.

Its as though all the accounts, data etc are hard wired in, and all my changes are ignored when I turn off after changing settings and then turning on again.

Please someone give me a straight forward "How to". I am being driven mad by this!!
Thanks in advance
FG

You need to do a factory reset to wipe it clean:

Tap the clock and a menu pops up, tap Settings, Privacy, and then tap on Factory data reset, tap the "Reset device" button near the bottom, and then confirm it. After a few minutes, the tablet will reboot and reload the software in a "like new" state. All data should be cleared, including any songs, videos, settings, and google accounts.

If not, then there is a recovery menu where you can do a wipe and reset. But it should not be needed...try the regular reset first.

Sorry it did not seem to work. Old owner's ID still in skype, Yahoo mail and messenger.
Also I cannot uninstall some of the crap on there which was put on from the market by the last owner:mad:.

Any changes I make to settings, city lists in weather, skype IDs, are not saved when the device is powered off and on again.
If the recovery menu you mention is the power + volume down routine, I have tried that as well, although I did not clear the cache.

Is yahoo mail and messenger preloaded on the Tab? and is this why a reset does not work?

They are not preloaded on my tab, but here is a suggestion. Go into the manage applications in the settings and go to all apps. Find those apps and it should say either uninstall or clear data. I hope that helps, although i do not know why a factory reset did not clear them or the user's account. I've done it for my android devices and it always clears the user's accounts

Thanks for the hint: I have tried that, together with making sure the apps are not running first, no synching etc, and the ****ing yahoo is still there as well as Skype.

I am beginning to wonder if the thing is faulty. There is a firmware update going on, but I am having problems with that too, it says it failed because it "did not recognise a mobile phone".

Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks for the replies so far.

Sounds like it is rooted. Is titanium backup on it? It will reload certain things when messing w ROMs

This might make sense: how do I find out: that is not in the list of apps I see on the screen. In the details of the device in settings, I have:
Kernel version 2.6.36.3
se.infra@SEP-55 #1

(Following up to myself: how sad.)

The thing will not retain any settings or files put onto it after a power down and back on. It seems impossible to write to memory and keep that across a power down/reboot.

Anyone any ideas as to the cause?

Im having the same problem, my tab is rooted and i installed pershoot kernel few months ago i wiped the data, hard reset via clockworkmod and even flashed different rom using odin but when it boots its restores everything and what ever i do uninstall apps delete files everything comes back
even search suggestions in google search.

every time i boot the device market updates to google play store but if i open it or uninstall it or clear its cash the tab freeze then reboot to the last state and then it happens again, it happens after a while if i leave it alone and it does not freeze if i disconnect it from the internet.

any suggestions?

Just disable google backup when start after a wipe.

it doesnt keep any changes even if i put a rom file to flash it from recovery when i boot to recovery it disappears

market is trying to update to google play store but when it does the tab freezes and reboots to the last state could that be it?
