My tangerine tree is dying

There are ways of drying/preserving leaves so they still look good. If you can't save the tree, then get some of the best looking leaves, preserve them, and add them to a wreath you can hang somewhere in the house.

If you can't save leaves that way, crush some up, put them in a pretty jar with some tangerine oil. You can open the jar at various times for a room freshener.

Thanks, zuben. Those are very sweet thoughts and would preserve the memory of the tree. :)

Thats sad news. ive been doing some reading on it and the only way to prevent it pre-emptive measures and keeping a good dry cycle.

We've had terrible bouts of late season blight with tomatoes and related crops around here and it's a pretty tough one. a copper sulfide solution works a bit and preventing the spread, but it turns healthy fruit to mush within a week.

I never did tangerines, but are yours seeded? that would always be a good way to keep the line going.

There's very little fruit left on the tree now, but this is another excellent thought! Thanks. :) There typically aren't many seeds in the fruit--sometimes you don't come across any at all--but there should be SOME. Tomorrow I'll be out there plucking what fruit is left and see if there are any seeds in them.

Also, my gardener comes on Fridays, so tomorrow I guess we'll discuss what to do with the tree. I'm so reluctant to do what the plant expert said (chop it down), even though I understand there's no point NOT doing it. I just don't want to give up yet.

I'll add pics in a little bit, but my gardener and I discussed the tree yesterday and he disagrees with the botanical expert. I so badly WANT to believe there's hope for it, I agreed to his idea of cutting it way back and watching it to see what happens. So it had a severe haircut yesterday, all the dead branches are gone (it's lopsided now!), and we'll revisit it next Friday.

Here it is, after its rather severe haircut yesterday!

Fingers crossed that my gardener is right. He's not a 'book smart' guy, but he is a 'hands on, lots of experience' guy.

Hey- what ever happened to your tree???? I just found this thread. My tangerine tree is in a very similar state. And I have also been told that it is probably fungus , and nothing much to do about it but chop it down. That was 2 years ago, and it's still hanging in there, but more and more wood is dying... :( Hope you were able to save yours, but I'm curious to know either way.
