my world clock went from eastern time zo

The world clock on my phone always said..eastern time zone. Then one day after phone acting funny it said...new york. So I reset phone. Went back to eastern time zone. My question is..why would it change? Virus?

Isn't the time in New York within the Eastern Time Zone anyway? (UTC-5?) Did the clock actually change and show an incorrect time or something? That's not the sort of things that any "viruses" malicious software would do. More like something just went funky with your whatever it is phone and software, and resetting evidently cleared it.

My android kit kat 4.4.4 was acting funny along with that. As in...my android messenging would say dec 31 1969 every time I deleted a message. It would flash at me. Hard to type words cause it would hang on a letter. But as soon as I reset all went back to reset and no 1969 shit etc. I took out my sd card before I reset it. As soon as I put it back in my phone said card damaged. Didn't do that the last time I had to reset this thing. Answers??

Yes new york is eastern time. But that wasn't what my factory phone said when bought. It said..eastern standard time. No city mentioned. Wouldn't let me change it either.

KitKat 4.4.4, that's got to be getting on a bit for a phone now? It sounds like it might be having general issues with both hardware and software. What phone actually is it? Dec 31, 1969, sounds like the RTC is having some serious issues there, I wonder if an internal backup battery is kaput. And the micro-SD problems as well, that's almost definitely hardware.

I think malicious software are much more likely going to be stealing your data or spying on you or something, rather than playing silly tricks.

Yeah, the moment I saw 1969 I thought "the backup battery has died". That's ok, a phone can work fine without, it's nothing to worry about and it's not a sign of any sort of infection.

99.9% of oddities that people turn up here asking "is this a virus" are nothing of the sort, and I don't think this is either. Maybe that one app lost its current time (like with the 1969 glitch) and when it resynced it chose a different name for the time zone it the network told it it was in?
