Help Mystery status bar in notification area

KWPR

Lurker
Hi all. I'm running an older Nexus 7 with Android v 6.0.1. A couple days ago I got this new "bar" in my notification pull down that displays CPU, Battery, Flashlight, Settings and a Boost icon (see attachment). I can't swipe it to dismiss it and when I do a long press on it the bar turns into Flashlight.
Any advice on how to get rid of it? And any info on where the heck it came from?
Thanks,
Karen

I haven't installed anything recently but I have been visiting a few forums (TripAdvisor and Cruise Critics) but these don't require any special software.

I did the double swipe (didn't know I could do this) but there was nothing enlightening.

However, as I was typing this my keyboard did some weird things. Is there a safe virus scan available that I could try?

Do you remember what the last app or 2 you've downloaded?

As far as a virus scan, I don't know sorry, but I'm sure others can chime in about that :(

Well, I figured it out. It was the Flashlight app. They must have done an update on that app because I've had it on here since day one and it just started with that bar that I couldn't dismiss. Strange thing too - when I went into Apps from my Settings all of the apps were listed in alphabetical order except Flashlight was at the top before the "A" apps. Bizarre.

You have to be careful with flashlight apps, because so many of them have excessive permissions for what they're supposed to do. Basically a flashlight app is only supposed to turn the camera LED on and sometimes make the screen go bright white.
