Help N7 Dead? Help me Obi-wan

I'll try to keep this brief. My N7 is dead. No screen. I can hear the usb connecting when I plug it into the computer, but the computer finds no device to recognize. I'm not sure what happened. I think it was a failed update. One day it was working fine and the next it wasn't. I've tried everything I can think of and many things others have thought of too, but so far I'm stumped. With no screen I have no idea what may or may not be happening when I push the buttons. Apparently can't get into fast boot, but it's hard to say for sure since I can't see anything.

It was rooted, now I think it's pooped the bed. If anyone has any suggestions that don't require a 2 year degree in programming I'd love to hear them!

Extrememly basic here, but I'm assuming you've tried a hard reset (hold the power button for 10 full seconds)?

Has the battery run down? If the battery goes completely flat some jiggery-pokery may be required to get the tablet on again. There are lots of threads in this forum about how to fix this.

I've tried every reset ever mentioned on the internet I think. Hold the power button for 10, 20, 30 seconds. Hold the power and volume down buttons together for various amounts of time. Various other combinations, etc. All I know for sure is that when I hold down whatever buttons for however long I can hear the usb connect/disconnect sounds from the computer. When I unplug and plug back in (usb) I get a message that the usb device is not recognized. I've downloaded drivers from ASUS, XDA, Microsoft and a few others as well.

I have no idea if the battery has gone flat or not since the display is black. I've left it plugged in to the charger for long periods of time. I've checked the connector on the battery. I've disconnected the battery over the weekend. I think I'm running out of options.

But wait! There's more! This just in: I just plugged the Nexus 7 into my computer and it installed it as an Asus Transformer Prime APX Interface. Is there any way I can work with that to bring the nexus back? Maybe?
