Ok, I just can't figure this out. How do you get Nandroid installed so you can create backups? I am looking all over and just can't figure it out.

There're instructions in the very first post in the xda thread:

Copy recovery-RA-nexus-v1.6.2.img to a location where fastboot can find it.
Boot your phone into fastboot mode (power on while holding the trackball)
Connect your phone via usb to your pc/mac/...
fastboot devices (to make sure that fastboot "sees" your phone)
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.6.2.img

Needs an unlocked bootloader, of course.

Are you sure that is correct? recovery-RA-nexus-v1.5.3.img is to flash the firmware on top of the current firmware. I am looking to backup before I do it. My understanding is you need Nandroid and it appears you have to go through a few steps and few different apps to get it to work.
