Native E-Mail App Badge Not Working

Following Oreo update the native email application badge no longer counts new email. Under settings, the "app icon badges" radio button is turned on and app notifications is turned on. Reset of the phone did not fix the issue. The email app is up to date. Any suggestions?

When you say "no longer counts" what does it do? A little dot to indicate that there is a notification is a standard Oreo feature, so if it's doing that that might be all you get. Otherwise it depends on the launcher, but I have a feeling, from other threads, that the stock Samsung launcher is just doing the notification dots (but would be happy to be corrected by someone who actually has got a Samsung running Oreo).

I never use the stock launcher on any device, and third party solutions work as they always have (i.e. I have unread counts on my icons, using Nova Launcher and TeslaUnread plugin, and I'm running 8.1)..

I no longer get a counter badge for the amount of unread emails. Before the Oreo update, the app badge would have a number indicating how many unread emails.

Before Oreo the Samsung launcher would be doing its own thing, like many third party launchers do. With Oreo including the "notification dot" thing I have the impression that Samsung have adopted that as their default, even though it is more limited than what they did previously.

From what I've read in other threads I think there is still a way to make it show a count - unfortunately I've not found the post that included instructions for where to turn this on, but I'd check through the general settings as well as the app's settings, and look for it being hidden in advanced options or similar nonsense as well. But I think it will still be counting notifications rather than counting unread emails, and that clearing the notifications will zero the count.

This is just how Samsung have done it. If you want the full old badge functionality back I'm pretty sure you'll have to change launcher.
